arduino
http://www.arduino.cc/
Arduino is an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple i/o board, and a development environment for writing Arduino software. The Arduino programming language is an implementation of Wiring , itself built on Processing .
Arduino can be used to develop interactive objects, taking inputs from a variety of switches or sensors, and controlling a variety of lights, motors, and other outputs. Arduino projects can be stand-alone, or they can be communicate with software running on your computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP .) The boards can be assembled by hand or purchased preassembled; the open-source IDE can be downloaded for free.
Arduino received an Honory Mention in the Digital Communities section of the 2006 Ars Electronica Prix.

metareciclagem
http://metareciclagem.org/
MetaReciclagem is not an independent collective. MetaReciclagem is not (and as for today never needed to be) a formal NGO—even though it is effectively an organization that is both nongovernmental and nonprofit. MetaReciclagem does not define a group of people, but is instead a name that some people use to identify and refer to an open methodology about the re-appropriation of technology to foster social transformation in different parts of Brazil.

semapedia
http://www.semapedia.org/
Our goal is to connect the virtual and physical world by bringing the right information from the internet to the relevant place in physical space.
To accomplish this, we invite you to create Semapedia-Tags which are in fact cellphone-readable physical hyperlinks. You can create such Tags easily yourself by choosing and pasting a Wikipedia URL into the form above. Once created, you put the Tags up at their according physical location. You just hyperlinked your world! Others can now use their cellphone to 'click' your Tag and access the information you provided them.

the Freecycle Network
http://www.freecycle.org/
The Freecycle Network is a worldwide network of local online gifting communities which enables direct person-to-person gifting locally rather than disposal of items in landfills. The goal is to establish a global online gift economy to promote reuse and provide new homes for items otherwise lacking monetary value. It empowers the more disenfranchised of society: the poor, the elderly, the home-bound with illness, etc. to make a difference in the world and to become philanthropists in their own right. It's beautiful to see and fun to give.

the Organic City
http://www.theorganiccity.com/wordpress/
The Organic City is a collaborative digital storytelling project focused on the downtown Oakland, California. The project has three phases. During Phase 1, which took place during Fall 2005, the project developed a web forum where members of the public were invited to read and write stories about local places. During Phase 2, we conducted community outreach to promote the online community to the local physical community. During Phase 3, which took place through June 2006, the project developed a mobile story experience that can be accessed with handheld devices while walking around downtown Oakland. The project explores relationships between story, place and community; as well as the ways in which new technologies can enhance our appreciation for these important components of human identity. While today's media tends to isolate people from their local communities, it is important to find ways of using new media to reconnect neighbors and establish a sense of place.

the Free Software Foundation
http://www.fsf.org/
The Free Software Foundation organizes the worldwide free software community. Among the millions of contributors and users in this community, there are many different opinions and approaches; our focus is on the philosophical and political work needed to maintain the freedom to use, study, copy, modify and redistribute software. This covers issues of software patents, proprietary licensing, and government legislation. We also organize and provide support for the GNU Project, which is a community of developers writing and maintaining the GNU free software operating system.
Our main objective is to achieve software freedom for everyone. The FSF is dedicated to promoting computer users' rights to use, copy, study, modify, and redistribute computer programs. We promote the development and use of free software, particularly the GNU operating system, used widely today in its GNU/Linux variant, and free documentation. FSF and GNU websites and discussion mailing lists are places where people can come to coordinate their efforts toward these goals. All of these efforts improve the ability of people to share knowledge with each other and build communities around that knowledge.

the CouchSurfing Project
http://www.couchsurfing.com/
The CouchSurfing Project helps members make connections worldwide. They can use the network to meet people and then go and surf other members' couches! When they surf a couch, they are a guest at someone's house. The host provides some sort of accommodation, a penthouse apartment or maybe a backyard to pitch a tent in. Stays can be as short as a cup of coffee, a night or two, or even a few months or more. When offering a couch, the host has complete control of who visits.

NewGlobalVision / Telestreet
http://www.ngvision.org/
http://www.telestreet.it/

the Institut for Applied Autonomy
http://www.appliedautonomy.com/http://www.appliedautonomy.com/
TXTmob was initially intended as a tool for activists to share information and coordinate actions during political protests—particularly for the sorts of decentralized "convergences" that characterize modern anti-globalization demonstrations. The goal of the project was to provide communications infrastructures that support a broad range of activists' needs and enable fluid, spontaneous actions. In practice, TXTmob has been used in a variety of ways during recent protests, orchestrating "flashmob"-type actions (in which thousands of protesters converge on a location with very little notice), reporting on police movements, and exchanging messages of solidarity between activists in the street and their supporters around the world. During the RNC, Indymedia reporters and legal observers relied heavily on TXTmob for up-to-the-minute information about the action in the streets.

the World Starts with Me
http://www.theworldstarts.org/
The World Starts with Me (WSWM) is a digital learning environment about sexual health education, AIDS prevention and creative ICT skills for young Ugandans. The program is for both schoolgoing young people and early school leavers. They are reached through 52 online schools and Telecenters around Uganda to be followed by networks in Kenya and Tanzania. WSWM combines sexual health education with creative ICT education using an experiential learning approach in order to make sexual health education and HIV/AIDS prevention training:
• more real (real life examples young people can relate to)
• useful (skills for job opportunities)
• appealing (creating your own expressive digital works)
• comprehensive (complete sexual and reproductive health and rights content)
• effective (researching and developing your own point of view)

dorkbot international events.
http://dorkbot.org
The main goals of dorkbot are: to create an informal, friendly environment in which people can talk about the work they're doing and to foster discussion about that work; to help bring together people from different backgrounds who are interested in similar things; to give us all an opportunity to see the strange things our neighbors are doing with electricity. dorkbot isn't really a forum for formal artist talks or lectures, but rather a chance for diverse people to have friendly conversations about interesting ideas.

Tobecontinued is a group exhibition in progress that starts with some students of the Fine Arts Academy of Rome. Using Myspace as an interactive platform, Tobecontinued is based on the concepts of open art-work, cause and/vs effect, and free association of ideas; where the last art-work is always inspired to the previous one, in order to generate an open art-work in continuous evolution that never completes itself. The process is constituted by the single works as video, animations, photos, music, net projects, and shows details, nuances and ideas of the whole art-work's project. Let's continue, joining with us and sending your art-work (max. 4 mb per email) at tobecontinued.tobecontinued@gmail.com
